The former Leeds United player, 28, featured for almost an hour in the Tigers’ Under-21 game with Crewe Alexandra at North Ferriby, with the hosts winning 2-1.

Snodgrass had been sidelined since suffering a serious injury on his Premier League bow for Hull against QPR at Loftus Road in August 2014, with the Scottish international delighted to be approaching the end of a long and arduous road back to fitness.

Snodgrass, likely to be handed several more reserve outings to boost his match fitness, with the objective of getting him involved again with the first team next month, said: “It felt great to be out in the fresh air, to be part of a team and to get some minutes under my belt.

“I feel tired after it, but I’m delighted to have come through it. It’s another box ticked, so now I have to move on and tick the next one.

“I felt good out there. I made a lot of runs, a few high intensity runs as well and that was good because it shows that all of the long hours of rehab have worked.

“If the fitness side is there, then it becomes all about getting that match sharpness. I need to keep playing these games and get as much out of them as I possibly can.

“It’s all about getting used to being part of a team again as well. I’ve been a bit of a lone ranger over the last few months and I’m pretty close to being a professional swimmer now with the amount I’ve been doing!

“But it’s all part and parcel of football and I’m just glad to have moved on another step. It’s all about looking forward now, not back.

“I’ve worked so hard to get back to this stage, I’d be crazy to take my foot off the gas now. This is where the hard work really begins, especially with the team flying high.

“I want to push to try and get into that team and that started last night. The bread and butter is on the park and I’ll keep trying to tick those boxes and moving forward.”

Snodgrass joined Hull in a £7m move from Norwich in the summer of 2014.
