Robert Snodgrass hits comeback trail for Hull City

ROBERT SNODGRASS’S recovery from an injury that has kept the Hull City midfielder out for 16 months will take a huge step forward tomorrow when he returns to the first-team squad.

The Scottish international has been out since dislocating his knee on the opening day of last season.

However, after three games for the development squad and a little over four weeks training, Steve Bruce believes the £7.5m signing from Norwich City is ready to return to the bench in tomorrow’s televised clash with Derby County.

Bruce said today: “Snodgrass came through the game on Monday as well as he could have done and he’s trained for a month now with the squad.

“The next step is to reintroduce him so he’ll be on the bench tomorrow. If he doesn’t play any part against Derby then he’ll be on the bench on Tuesday (against Manchester City).

“The key is not to expect too much too soon. It’s 15 or 16 months he’s been out. It’s ridiculous. But he’s done everything he can now. The next step is with us. He can’t do any more rehabilitation. It’s been hour after hour, week after week.

“I have spoken with him and he was delighted. He was excited as well so it’s good for him. It should give him a lift that we have got confidence in him.”

Snodgrass will return against the Rams but Michael Dawson and Andrew Robertson are both suspended after collecting a fifth booking of the season last weekend against Bristol City.
