Rosenior will pass on lessons from the past

The Tigers were one of the 2013-14 campaign’s surprise packages as Steve Bruce’s men comfortably avoided relegation and reached the 
FA Cup final.

This, though, will count for little on opening day tomorrow when they travel to QPR.

Hull’s simple target is to stay up, something Rosenior – part of the Reading side relegated in 2008 – admits will be a big challenge.

He said: “The Premier League is going to be tough again. If we go into it thinking things will be easier than last year then we will be in for a shock. Make no mistake about that.

“In my experience, the second year is more difficult and a lot of teams do go down at the end of the second season. That’s why we have to get to that 40-point mark as soon as possible.

“I was at Reading when they went down. The club had a fantastic first season, finished eighth. But then maybe one or two had their heads turned.

“It does happen in the Premier League. You become more famous, the money becomes bigger and it is easy to be distracted – especially when you are young.

“That is what happened at Reading. But this is a grounded group and we have to make sure we don’t lose sight of things.”
