Tigers chief Bruce stands by goalkeeper McGregor

STEVE BRUCE has leapt to the defence of Allan McGregor after a series of high-profile blunders for Hull City.

The Scottish international was at fault for Swansea City’s first goal last weekend as the Tigers lost 3-1.

He was also culpable for what proved to be Chelsea’s winner at the KC Stadium when Loic Remy’s tame shot slid under his body.

Bruce said: “With a goalkeeper and being in the Premier League, the one thing it does is highlight mistakes.

“Unfortunately, Allan will be the first to admit he’ll be disappointed over the last couple of weeks in particular.

“But speculation (about McGregor being dropped) is speculation. I haven’t made a decision one way or the other just yet and before I tell the media I think I owe it to my goalkeeper to tell him first.

“But he is a very, very good goalkeeper but, unfortunately, when you make a couple of mistakes as a goalkeeper it is highlighted these days.

“Despite his mistakes, he is still a top-class goalkeeper.”

Gaston Ramirez and the suspended David Meyler will miss the trip to St Mary’s but Tom Huddlestone is back from a two-game ban and Stephen Quinn impressed at the Liberty Stadium.
