Tigers get chance to give their views on poor form

IF an indication was needed as to just how disappointing the last couple of weeks have been for Hull City, it came this week when a team meeting was called for players to air their views on what has gone wrong.

Three straight defeats had done some serious damage to the Tigers’ hopes of reaching the play-offs and left the squad searching for answers.

Everyone was encouraged to have their say and the fruits of the discussion will be seen today when Coventry City come to the KC Stadium, as full-back Liam Rosenior readily admits.

He said: “We have had a team meeting, and a lot of interesting things were said. Everyone had their say.

“The great thing about this group of lads is that everyone cares. The way we were talking showed we are still in this together.

“There were a few home truths told to each other. That is the good thing and, because we are so close, it wasn’t anything personal.

“Maybe the last few games have been a wake-up call for all of us. Maybe we were back-slapping ourselves too much, saying how good we were and maybe we got above our station.”

Since returning to the top six with a wonderful 3-0 victory at Cardiff City on March 13, Hull have claimed just one point from four games and slipped to ninth.

Tuesday’s defeat to Portsmouth was comfortably their worst display of the season but Rosenior insists the players can bounce back with a resounding win against relegation-threatened Coventry City.

Rosenior added: “We are still in a great position and it feels like something is written in the stars for us. To lose three in a row and still have the chance to move into the play-offs is incredible.

“We can still do something special. We are still fighting. I honestly believe we are one of the best teams in the league but we need to go out there and show it.

“Coventry will not be easy opponents. Every team we play between now and the end of the season is going to give us a hard, hard game.

“We know that there is no complacency in our squad. We want to go out against whoever we are playing and play the same way to get the three points.

“You have blips in a season but it is how you come back from them that matters.

“We know if we can go on a run then we can get in the play-offs. I can’t wait for the game to come around.”
