Hull City defeated managerless Fleetwood Town 3-2 in the third round of the Papa John’s Trophy on Tuesday night.

The Tigers played Sunderland in League One action last Saturday with the clash ending a 1-1 draw.

The result leaves the Black Cats in 10th spot in League One, with 30 points from 19 played, eight points adrift of the automatic promotion positions.

In a potential boost for the Black Cats, St Johnstone won’t stop reported Sunderland target Scott Tanser returning to England amid interest from the League One outfit, manager Callum Davidson has explained.

He said: “If there was a good offer for him I obviously wouldn’t stop him going back down the road but there are a lot of things he’ll need to factor into the equation – one of them being he’s playing in a position he really likes, wing-back. (The Courier)
