Influx of players at Bradford City continues

DEFENDER Luke Oliver has become the fourth new signing for manager Peter Taylor at Bradford City.

Oliver, 25, has joined the Bantams on a month's loan from Taylor's former club Wycombe Wanderers and is set to make his debut in tomorrow's Yorkshire derby at Rotherham United.

Standing 6ft 7ins, the 25-year-old is one of the tallest players in the Football League and his arrival at Valley Parade coincides with the absence due to injury of centre-back Zesh Rehman.

Taylor has already signed former Wycombe striker Gavin Grant, Liverpool defender Robbie Threlfall and Gillingham's Mark McCammon on short-term deals since his appointment as Bradford manager four games ago.

With 14 games still to play, Taylor is aiming to lift his new club back into a respectable league position after the disappointment of the last few months. Neither promotion or relegation appears to be on the agenda this season but Taylor, who is only under contract until the summer, aims to show that he is the man to take Bradford forward.

"With Zesh having a calf injury at the moment, I wanted a little bit of cover defensively and I'm always out to push everyone I can," said Taylor. "Hopefully, Luke coming here will do that.

"He is very tall and very strong in the air. I brought him in at Wycombe last season and he played a few games for us, helping to clinch promotion. He didn't start the first game this season but, after that, got in the team quite early. He's been left out for the last few weeks so it's his chance to get playing again."

Oliver, who also played for Taylor at Stevenage Borough, will be a free agent at the end of the current season so will be looking to earn a permanent deal at Valley Parade.

Taylor has not ruled out the possibility of adding a fifth new signing before tomorrow's trip to Rotherham.

Winger Scott Neilson, meanwhile, will spend the next month on loan with Cambridge United. Neilson, 22, has made 27 appearances since arriving last summer from Cambridge City but has not made the bench in Bradford's last two games.
