International call-up for Sheffield Wednesday youngster

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith has been included in the England Under-21 squad to play Switzerland.

The Owls rookie has impressed as back-up for No 1 choice Keiren Westwood this season, making 12 appearances in total.

The 20-year-old was in goal for Wednesday’s 3-0 home win over Arsenal, and the 1-0 victory at Newcastle United in the League Cup.

Wildsmith said: “It’s been a big season for me so far and I’m very proud of what’s been achieved and there are a lot of people to thank.

“The gaffer has been brilliant with me and Andy Rhodes has shown a lot of faith in me and I hope I’ve repaid them a little with my performances.”

The Owls’ penultimate away game of the season, at Derby County on April 23, will kick-off at 12.30 for Sky TV coverage.
