The Tykes got off to a perfect start under new manager Valerien Ismael with a comprehensive 3-0 win over QPR in midweek – their first of the season to date.

That result helped to move the club up to 18th in the table, and represented a fourth consecutive game unbeaten after three straight draws prior the Frenchman’s appointment.

Likewise, Watford are unbeaten in their last four outings, but have seen their bid to make an immediate return to the Premier League stutter a little in recent weeks.

Draws against Bournemouth and struggling Wycombe Wanderers have seen the Hornets slip to fifth in the table, and Prutton believes that their recent dip in form could afford Barnsley an opportunity to extend their new boss’ honeymoon period.

Writing for Sky Sports, he said: “Valerien Ismael seems to have got them off to a flyer with a great win against QPR in midweek.

"They have a knack of shrewd managerial appointments, Barnsley, and could well be on to another winner here.

“Watford have an excellent squad, but this will be another tough game for them. They have only scored more than once in one game all season, and I think they will be held again on Saturday.”

The pundit has predicted a 1-1 draw.

Barnsley have won just one of their last eight meetings against Watford, recording a 1-0 victory in 2013 thanks to a first half Bobby Hassell header.
