Hull City 1 AFC Wimbledon 0 - Keane Lewis-Potter fires Tigers to top of the table

The Tigers went back to the top of League One after rivals Ipswich were thumped at Doncaster.

Grant McCann’s side have now won five of their opening six games in the third tier and are sitting pretty at the summit.

The Tigers opened encouragingly at the KCOM, and early on a smart pass from Lewie Coyle – on his league debut – found Josh Magennis, only for his goal-bound effort to be blocked.

Magennis was looking particularly lively, though he should have done better when he headed off target from George Honeyman’s cross.

There was a big let-off for the hosts in the 20th minute. Joe Pigott headed the ball back across the Tigers box into Jack Rudoni’s path, but somehow he nodded wide from inside the six-yard box.

Back came Hull, and it was Magennis who was the danger-man again as his header from Jacob Greaves’s knock-down was saved well by Connal Trueman.

The Tigers finally made the breakthrough in first-half stoppage-time. Lewis-Potter struck, pouncing after Trueman had beaten out Greaves’s header.

Hull weathered some late pressure, before Reece Burke nodded Callum Elder’s cross wide.
