Hull City transfer news: Defender signs new deal, Portsmouth make decision on Championship player

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Hull City quietly stay out of the usual transfer deadline day frenzy this year.

The Tigers have already completed deals for Jordan Flores, Gavin Whyte and Dan Crowley, and Grant McCann has made it clear that he is content with the business that his side have conducted so far.

As such, the next few days at the KCOM may be fairly understated, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything happening at all.

According to the club’s official website, academy duo Andy Smith and David Robson have penned new deals with City that will keep them on Humberside until 2022 and 2023 respectively.

While Robson is yet to make an appearance for the senior side, Smith was handed a debut in the 3-2 win over Fleetwood Town in the Papa John’s Trophy earlier this month, and equipped himself well in an assured display.

Speaking about the defender, McCann said: “Andy has been up training with the first team now for a number of months and he’s come on leaps and bounds. You saw his performance against Fleetwood and how good he was against experienced players.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeping coach Barry Richardson said of Robson: “We see real good potential in him and that’s why we’ve decided to offer him a contract extension. He’s got a very good attitude and his all-round general improvement since coming up from the Academy has been spot on. We look forward to seeing him develop further.”

Elswhere in League One, fellow promotion hopefuls Portsmouth have made a goalkeeping decision of their own.

The Blues had taken Huddersfield Town stopper Jacob Chapman on trial from Huddersfield Town, but have instead opted to bring in Lewis Ward from Exeter City instead, as per The News.

Chapman had just one session with Pompey, but Ward’s superior experience is understood to have been a key factor in making Kenny Jackett’s mind up for him.

Portsmouth have been on the lookout for a new keeper this window after Alex Bass picked up an injury.
