Ipswich 3 Doncaster Rovers 2: We lost control, admits O'Driscoll

DONCASTER Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll bemoaned his side's mounting injury problems following this defeat to Ipswich Town.

Billy Sharp put Doncaster in front after six minutes but David Norris and Connor Wickham hit back for the Tractor Boys, who are struggling in the bottom half of the Championship.

Sharp levelled the scores but Carlos Edwards netted what turned out to be the winner in the 64th minute.

"It's been the story of our season. If the games stopped at half-time we'd be top of the league," said O'Driscoll.

"This is a difficult league for us to be in and we're not going to go through it without having difficult periods.

"From the moment they scored, we lost all control of the game and it became flick-of-the-coin football.

"We might have got back in or we might not. But from any ball forward they looked like they might score. I can't quite comprehend that.

"In this division we've got to be more comfortable under pressure. Otherwise every team you play has got big, physical players who will cause you problems.

"We've had defensive frailties all season and not had the same back-four combination for two or three games together. We've had to chop and change.

"I must have more centre-halves than any manager in the Championship.

"It's just that they're all injured and I can't get them to play consistently week-in, week-out.

"This is the most frustrating time I've had since I've been in Doncaster."

New Ipswich manager Paul Jewell – former boss of Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City – was delighted with his first win at the club.

Jewell said: "Given the situation we're in, we needed three points.

"In the first half we were edgy but I told the players to retain their belief and confidence.

"We showed great character and were on the front foot at the start of the second half.

"We changed the system a bit, created some chances and went 2-1 up. It was a kick in the teeth when they equalised after 10 seconds and the players' heads could have gone down after that. But they took the bull by the horns and kicked on.

"In the second half we played with great freedom and it was a great victory."
