Ipswich Town 2 Huddersfield Town 2: Philosophical Grayson able to take Vaughan’s penalty miss in stride

HUDDERSFIELD Town missed a penalty and the chance to return home with all three points.

But manager Simon Grayson said: “We had an opportunity to win it right at the end, with the penalty, but I’d have settled for a point before the game.”

He added: “It was an open game and there were plenty of chances for both teams. We could have won it and could have lost it.

“We still wanted to win it, even at 2-2. We could have got bodies behind the ball and shut up shop but that’s not my philosophy.

“I’m sure both managers will have been happy with a point.”

The home side fell behind to Adam Clayton’s strike but turned the game on its head thanks to goals from Luke Chambers and Michael Chopra.

However, James Vaughan levelled 10 minutes from time before the same player spurned the Terriers’ opportunity to take all the points when he saw a penalty brilliantly saved by Scott Loach.

Of Vaughan, on a season-long loan from Norwich, Grayson added: “James had some good opportunities and that’s why we’ve brought him to the club.

“He’s a good lad and he’s worked hard for the team.

“We’re delighted to have got him here for the season and hopefully we can keep him fit for it, because he can be a major asset for us.”

Grayson’s opposite number Paul Jewell admitted his Ipswich side lack the confidence to see out matches after being held.

Ipswich’s draw followed on from the midweek Capital One Cup defeat to Carlisle and the previous weekend’s 6-0 mauling at Blackpool, and Jewell conceded that the confidence of his players had taken a hit. He said: “When we get into a winning situation we haven’t got that air of confidence to see games out. That’s been the case for a while.”
