Jordan Rhodes '˜priced out' of Sheffield Wednesday's grasp as Swansea prepare to swoop for Blackburn striker

SHEFFIELD Wednesday have admitted that a £12m price tag coupled with the player's wages have dashed any hope of a move for Swansea City target Jordan Rhodes.

Wednesday had been strongly linked with the Blackburn Rovers striker, son of Owls goalkeeping coach Andy, earlier in the week but head coach Carlos Carvalhal has poured cold water on such a move.

“Everybody knows it is fantasy about this player,” said Carvalhal, on the verge of a £3m permanent deal for Norwich City striker Gary Hooper, who has been on loan at the Owls.

“Do you think we have £10m-£12m to pay for a striker? It doesn’t make sense. he is a player who is completely out of our budget.

“We are doing everything with sense. We don’t have one of the biggest budgets of the Championship. There are teams who have invested more money than us. Everything we do is with good sense and economical.”

Blackburn value the Scotland striker at around £12m but Premier League strugglers Swansea are believed to have made a tempting £10m offer for a player who cost £8m from Huddersfield, who are entitled to 20 per cent of any profit made on a transfer.

Championsip title-chasers Middlesbrough have also been put off by the asking fee for Rhodes, 25, whose wages are said to top £45,000 per week.
