Kidderminster 0 York City 1: Barrett goal pushes York up league table

NEIL Barrett's second-half goal earned play-off chasing York City a vital victory at Kidderminster.

The Minstermen moved up to fourth place in the Blue Square Premier standings thanks to Barrett's 67th-minute strike.

York centre-back Djoumin Sangare had an early effort cleared off the line by home midfielder Dean Bennett in the Aggborough clash.

But Kidderminster enjoyed the better first-half chances with Lee Baker going close from long range on 26 minutes.

James Lawrie and Robbie Matthews then missed the target with good opportunities to break the deadlock.

On-loan Chesterfield midfielder Paul Harsley should have scored on 51 minutes for the visitors but his sidefooted effort was pushed around a post by goalkeeper Ross Atkins.

It was left to fellow midfielder Barrett to open the scoring on 67 minutes.

The former Chelsea apprentice fired into the roof of the net from 12 yards after Jamie Clarke's deep cross from the right.

York goalkeeper Michael Ingham then safeguarded all three points with fine saves from Marc Goodfellow and Chris McPhee late ob.

The Football Association last night appointed Alex Horne as acting chief executive to fill the gap left by Ian Watmore's resignation.

Watmore stepped down from the position despite having been in the post for only a year, having grown frustrated that his proposals were being thwarted.
