Following victories over Rotherham, Rushden, Southport and Darlington, the Minstermen travelled to the Midlands with confidence but, despite a strong finish to the match, were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

Neither side did enough to warm up the Aggborough crowd on a cold evening during a poor first half.

York midfielder Danny Racchi forced the only save of the opening 45 minutes but his 25-yard shot did not unduly trouble home goalkeeper Daniel Lewis.

At the other end, Tom Sharpe failed to head an inviting Lee Vaughan cross past Michael Ingham. Harriers' top scorer Chris McPhee also clipped the top of the crossbar with an inventive overhead kick.

The hosts continued to look the more likely to score at the start of the second half with Keith Briggs's 25-yard shot deflecting just wide.

McPhee had the ball in the net on 52 minutes but his effort was ruled offside.

York manager Gary Mills made a double substitution on 56 minutes and one of the replacements David McDermott rattled a post for the visitors moments later.

McDermott went close to snatching victory against his former team-mates, shooting narrowly wide from 25 yards.
