Adelakun struck in the 10th minute when he converted from Keane Lewis-Potter's cross to make it four wins from four for the Tigers, who also kept a fourth straight league clean sheet.

McCann’s side made a bright start to the contest as goalscorer Adelakun caused problems down the right-hand side while Josh Magennis and captain George Honeyman almost combined for the opener in the early stages.

The hosts made their first real chance count, however, as Adelakun volleyed home from Lewis-Potter's delivery with only 10 minutes gone.

With only the one goal separating the sides, Plymouth applied pressure late on, although they failed to create an opportunities to trouble Hull, who look set to challenge for promotion after picking up 12 points

Meanwhile, Doncaster fell to their first defeat of the League One campaign as Joe Garner scored the only goal of the afternoon in a 1-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic.
