Leeds United, Blades, Rovers, Barnsley and Millers bosses have their say

THERE were plenty of ups and downs in the world of football last night as five Yorkshire clubs competed in games throughout the divisions.

Here is the pick of what the managers said afterwards.

Sheffield United 3 Reading 0

Blades manager Kevin Blackwell said: "If it was a school report, it would be 'could do better'.

"We started so well but I felt that we just took our feet off the pedal. It became too easy and we were too sloppy.

"They are a team full of Premier League players but you have got to beat teams like that.

"In the end it was thoroughly professional but I would like to have seen certain things done better."

Doncaster Rovers 1 Middlesbrough 4

Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "We got well beaten I have no complaints.

"They were well organised and worked hard off the ball.

"They have some quality players and if you ally that with hard work you've got half a chance.

"They were two quality strikes from Adam Johnson who should be playing in the Premier division."

Barnsley 1 Leicester City 0

Barnsley manager Mark Robins said: "I'm very pleased with that because (chairman) Mr Cryne has been reminding me we only got one point in January last season. I've got that monkey off my back.

"If we can play for 90 minutes like we did in the second half we might be touching the play-offs.

"We're a bit of an enigma at the moment. Maybe it's a confidence thing I don't know, but we believe in them, I think the supporters get behind them and they've got to start believing in themselves."

Leeds manager Simon Grayson said: "I was very disappointed with how we played from first whistle to last.

"This was the complete opposite of Saturday at Tottenham. We were outfought and outbattled and got what we deserved.

"They seemed to want it more than us, they ran further than us...there's many reasons why we didn't do as well as we could have, but we have to get back to being hard to beat."

Chesterfield 0 Rotherham United 1

Millers manager Ronnie Moore said: "Tom Pope has worked his socks off, he has won a lot of headers and I thought he was tiring but we kept him on and what a great finish, and what a time to get it.

"I am pleased for Popey because that is his first league goal since August.

"Hopefully they will be like buses and it will keep happening for him.

"It was a typical derby game, both sides had chances, I felt we had the better of the channces and I think we probably just shaded it."
