Leeds United move for Bridcutt takes significant step closer

Both clubs have been negotiating a permanent transfer throughout the summer following the midfielder’s successful loan spell at Elland Road last season – only for progress to be held up by haggling over the termination of his deal on Wearside.
But with that hurdle now overcome, the former Brighton player – on a weekly wage packet of £26,000 at Sunderland – is now discussing personal terms with Leeds and a move could be finalised shortly to boost Garry Monk’s numbers in the middle of the park.

Hide AdA deal is understood to be close to being brokered, with Bridcutt, 27, – who made 24 league appearances for the club while on loan last season – keen on moving to Leeds on a full-time basis and eager to kick on his career after a frustrating time in the north-east.
Bridcutt has not appeared for the Premier League club since the end of the 2014-15 campaign and he was left out of a pre-season tour to France by new manager David Moyes – a sure sign that his days at the club are numbered.
The Black Cats are keen to recoup a fee of around £1.5m for the Reading-born player to ensure that the cost incurred in paying up Bridcutt’s contract does not leave them out of pocket.
