Leeds United v Leicester City: Road to recovery could see Davenport turn up at Leeds

LEEDS UNITED could offer Callum Davenport a route back into football after Simon Grayson confirmed the former West Ham defender is training with the Championship club.

The 27-year-old has not played since being stabbed in an attack a year ago that was the subject of a court case in July that cleared him of any wrong-doing.

He arrived at United's Thorp Arch training ground yesterday.

Manager Grayson said: "Glynn (Snodin, Leeds assistant manager) knows him well from West Ham.

"He has looked fit and strong. He has got a bit of work to do but we will see how he goes. He is a good player."

A more pressing concern for Grayson is tonight's Carling Cup second round tie at home to Leicester City.

The Leeds chief spent a large chunk of his playing career with the Foxes, who were, coincidentally, also the first opponents on his managerial bow at Elland Road.

Grayson, who may again rest Richard Naylor for a midweek Cup tie, has Max Gradel available for the first time this season following suspension.

However, he added: "Max is fit and has played in friendlies against Bradford Park Avenue and Gainsborough to maintain his fitness levels.

"He is chomping at the bit, though whether he starts against Leicester you will have to wait and see."

Last six games: Leeds United LWLWDW, Leicester City LWLWDL.

Referee: E Ilderton (Tyne & Wear).
