Eight individuals from six Championship clubs test positive for Coronavirus

THE ENGLISH Football League have confirmed that eight individuals from six different clubs have tested positive for Coronavirus in the latest rounds of testing over the course of the past week.

A total of 2,213 players and club staff were tested across second-tier clubs and those who tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities.

Brentford, who restart their season at fellow London club Fulham on Saturday, confirmed on their official Twitter account that one of their staff had returned a positive test.

The governing body have also confirmed that four individuals from two League One clubs have tested positive during testing of 254 players and club staff from four third-tier clubs - who will play in the play-offs - over the past week.

There were no positive tests recorded after 174 players and club staff were tested at four League Two clubs who will compete in the play-offs over the past week.

An EFL statement added: "As the fixture programme resumes, the EFL will make a central announcement of COVID-19 test results every Wednesday at midday to continue to support competition integrity and transparency.

"No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League."

The League Two play-offs begin on Thursday, while League One action begins on July 3.
