Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 2 – Which Leeds United player can help your Fantasy team this week?

Last week, Fantasy Premier League returned with as much drama and controversy as you’d expect as Liverpool looked shaky at the back, Bamford performed well up front and Vardy papered over the cracks by scoring two penalties in what were his only shots of the game.

After a week which saw five penalties scored across eight games, most of the popular picks this week will focus on penalty takers in a bid to take advantage of the changing laws within football itself.

Gameweek 2 deadline: Saturday 19th September @ 11am.

Captain Picks

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) vs West Ham (H)

The obvious captain this week has to be Aubameyang. He scored a lovely goal away to Fulham last weekend in a display which saw the Gabonese international take three shots in the box, two of which were on target, whilst easing to a 3-0 win. On the other hand, West Ham massively struggled at home to Newcastle last weekend, indicating that it will be a long season for the Hammers, who conceded the third most shots in the box for the gameweek. On penalties too, Aubameyang ticks all the boxes to be the prime captain pick.

Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m) vs Crystal Palace (H)

In Manchester United’s penalty taker, Fernandes is Man United’s most expensive player, justified by scoring eight goals and providing eight assists in just fourteen league games last season. Although this is United’s first game of the season which could cause a lack of match sharpness, history will be on their side as United have won six of the eight last meetings between these teams. Palace may have won last weekend against Southampton but remain without Cahill, Tomkins, and van Aanholt, who will be missed in defence.

Mo Salah (£12.0m) vs Chelsea (A)

On the back of a hat-trick last week including two spot kicks, staying with the penalty taker theme, Mo Salah is another obvious choice this week. The Egyptian topped the gameweek one chart for shots in the box (8), shots on target (3) and penalty area touches (21), indicating that he’s as clinical as ever and a major threat up front. Chelsea have failed to keep a clean sheet against Liverpool in six of their last seven games which strongly adds to Salah’s argument for the armband.

Willian (Arsenal, £8.1m)

Following fourteen points via a hat-trick of assists and with West Ham and Sheffield United at home across his next three league games, Willian marked his Arsenal league debut in style. Playing more centrally than he did at Chelsea, the Brasilian played behind Lacazette and adopted Kevin de Bruyne-like positions which may have been coached into him over the summer by Mikel Arteta. On corners and free kicks, Willian is a constant threat from set-pieces too.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton, £7.1m)

Getting off the mark with a victorious header against Tottenham on Sunday, Calvert-Lewin is spearheading this new-look Everton side in front of James Rodriguez who created the joint most chances in the league last weekend (5). With West Ham, Crystal Palace and Brighton up next, there’s a great chance for the Yorkshireman to add to his tally over the coming weeks.

Lucas Digne (Everton, £6.0m)

Providing the assist for Calvert-Lewin’s winner and on set-piece duty, with Everton’s great upcoming fixtures there’s a great chance for Digne to gain more attacking returns as well as to claim clean sheet points over the next few weeks. With four goals and thirteen assists over the last two seasons, whipping in seven crosses in the first week is very encouraging.

The Form Guide - Who’s Not?

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool, £7.5m)

Being the most owned player in the game, there were high hopes for a clean sheet or maybe a goal or an assist ahead of Liverpool’s Leeds game but instead Liverpool conceded three goals, Trent looked well off the pace and was spared of an own goal only by the linesman who called for offside. With Chelsea and Arsenal up next, a clean sheet doesn’t look likely anytime soon and funds might be better spent elsewhere.

Dele Alli (Spurs, £7.9m)

After being subbed off at half time against Everton followed by no involvement in a drab win in Bulgaria and with speculative transfer rumours regarding his exit, it could be argued that Alli is out of favour with Mourinho, who may be bringing Gareth Bale in to replace him in Spurs’ best 11. Alli was amongst the first players to drop in price this season, showing a lack of love for him in the FPL community.

Allan Saint-Maximin (Newcastle, £5.5m)

Although he played well against West Ham, from a fantasy football perspective ASM looked poor. The Frenchman only had one shot from outside the box and it missed the target. He only had two touches in the opposition’s penalty area too, so if things don’t improve against Brighton this weekend, it may be time to part ways.

Ones to Watch (Less than 5% ownership)

Mateusz Klich (Leeds, £5.5m, 2.9%)

Scoring at Anfield on his Premier League debut, Klich played in midfield role with a licence to attack when appropriate, having more penalty area touches than any other Leeds player. On penalties and with Fulham at home this weekend, for £5.5m, the Poland international is certainly tempting.

Jamal Lewis (Newcastle, £4.5m, 3.1%)

Coupled with a clean sheet, no Newcastle player created more chances than the left back in an emphatic away win last weekend. With Callum Wilson up front instead of Joelinton, it’s highly likely that more chances will be converted by the Magpies this season, too. Newcastle’s next three games include home ties against Brighton and Burnley.

Abdoulaye Doucoure (Everton, £5.5m, 2.6%)

Although James Rodriguez was a stand out Everton player in gameweek one, Doucoure’s stats showed his worth too. Priced £2.0m less than Rodriguez, Doucoure created four chances last weekend from a central position in a 4-1-4-1 that saw him and Andre Gomes positioned behind the striker.
