Chances rise of Leeds bid for Paddy Kenny - if they can find the cash

FORMER Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny looked set today to open talks with Leeds United after his present club Queens Park Rangers signed Robert Green from West Ham.

Kenny is now surplus to requirements at QPR, clearing the way for a deal at Elland Road.

Leeds manager Neil Warnock has had his eye on Kenny all summer, and is expected to start negotiations soon.

He said earlier: “I’ve been with Paddy for a long time and you never say never. But I’d imagine it depends on who QPR buy or bring in first.”

It is unclear, however, whether Leeds can afford to finance the deal. Discussions about investment at Elland Road are understood to be ongoing.

Kenny, who is also being pursued by Ipswich, is likely to cost in the region of £500,000.

His arrival at Leeds would almost certainly lead to the departure of Leeds’s first choice keeper Andy Lonergan, who is thought a likely choice for Bolton Wanderers.
