Charlton 2 Leeds United 1: It’s an anti-climax despite Morison ending drought

The 31-year-old saw his powerfully struck 40th-minute shot give the visitors the lead at The Valley, three minutes after Billy Sharp had a penalty saved by Stephen Henderson after Yoni Buyens was penalised for fouling Sam Byram.

The Charlton midfielder had a more positive intervention to fire the hosts’ winner from the spot 10 minutes from time after Stuart Taylor felled Igor Vetokele, who reacted quickest to a rebound after Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s shot was parried.

That arrived five minutes after the Addicks levelled when the untracked Tony Watt converted Gudmundsson’s right-wing cross on the volley.

The upshot was that Leeds slumped to their fifth straight defeat, with the late developments providing a real sense of anti-climax for Morison.

He said: “It was one of those where you score a great goal and all you want to do is talk about a win, but then it ends up just being a massive anti-climax.

“To be honest, in the period I played with the run we went on, I was a big part apart from goals.

“I was pleased with my performances, just frustrated that I wasn’t getting those chances.

“I wasn’t getting very many chances. Normally you don’t mind if you are getting loads of chances – at least you are missing them.

“But I wasn’t actually getting that many, but we were winning a lot of games and winning and taking a chance somewhere and scrapping for our lives.”

Morison revealed that the support of family and friends through some tough times during his career at Leeds has kept him going, with the striker keeping his head down and also drawing on the support of team-mates.

On his coping devices, he added: “I don’t go on Twitter and social media because I don’t do any of it.

“To be honest, I have got family and friends and the only people who I actually really need to have behind me are the people in the dressing room because when you are stuck on the pitch, they are the ones you need behind you.”
