Ex-Leeds Utd boss Peter Ridsdale to sue News of The World over email ‘hack’

FORMER Leeds United chairman Peter Ridsdale is to sue the News of the World over hacking claims, it emerged today.

The acting chairman of Plymouth Argyle is seeking damages over the alleged hacking of his personal email account after an article published last year.

Mr Ridsdale has already begun proceedings against the News of the World through Leeds-based law firm Walker Morris.

The action stems from an article published by the newspaper on January 3 last year, when Mr Ridsdale was chairman of Cardiff City.

Mr Ridsdale said: “We have an outstanding legal action against the News of the World relating to email hacking which took place in December 2009 and resulted in an article being printed in January 2010 which, we have put to them, could only have come from information obtained from a private email.”

The former Elland Road boss chairman said he did not know whether his mobile phone had been hacked, but told the Plymouth-based newspaper: “I don’t know, but there is a lot of information in the public domain that I don’t know how it’s got out there.”

Mr Ridsdale’s solicitor James Moore confirmed legal action was being taken against the tabloid.

“We are in correspondence with the News of the World to see if they are prepared to reach a settlement,” he said.

“Proceedings will be issued shortly if we cannot reach a settlement.”
