Football fixtures: Barnsley, Huddersfield Town, Hull City, Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield United, Bradford City, Rotherham United, York City

One of the biggest days of the close season - the release of the football fixtures. Here are some of the highlights for Yorkshire’s clubs.

Championship

Promoted Huddersfield Town open their Championship campaign with a daunting trip to Cardiff City on Saturday August 18, before welcoming Nottingham Forest to the Galpharm Stadium on August 21 and Burnley four days later.

The two eye-catching derbies with Leeds United are scheduled for December 1 at the Galpharm Stadium and March 16 at Elland Road.

Huddersfield host Blackpool on Boxing Day and finish their campaign on May 4 with a Yorkshire derby against Barnsley.

Their fellow promoted side Sheffield Wednesday begin their return to the second tier away at Derby County on August 18. They follow that with two home games against Birmingham and Millwall to complete the first week.

The South Yorkshire derbies with Barnsley are scheduled for December 15 at Oakwell and March 30 at Hillsborough.

Wednesday visit relegated Bolton on Boxing Day and host Middlesbrough on the final day, May 4.

Leeds United begin their campaign at home to relegated Wolves before facing a tricky trip to Blackpool three days later, on August 21.

Peterborough away rounds out the first week of the season.

Leeds play Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday around the international break in October, 6th and 20th respectively.

The first West Yorkshire derby is on December 1 at the Galpharm Stadium, while a trip to Nottingham Forest awaits on Boxing Day.

Leeds host Bolton on New Year’s Day and travel to Watford on the final day of the season.

Steve Bruce begins life as Hull City manager at home to Brighton, before the Tigers visit Blackburn on Wednesday August 22 and Charlton three days later.

There’s an early Yorkshire derby at Elland Road to tackle Leeds on September 18, while Boxing Day sees Hull host Nigel Pearson’s Leicester, and it is Blackpool away on New Year’s Day.

Hull finish at home to Cardiff on May 4.

Barnsley face a daunting first month beginning at home to Middlesbrough on August 18 and continuing against Wolves (a) and Brighton (a) in the first week.

The Reds entertain Birmingham on Boxing Day, travel to Peterborough on New Year’s Day and finish the season at Huddersfield.

After starting at Oakwell on August 18, Middlesbrough then host Burnley on August 21 and Crystal Palace four days later.

A daunting Christmas period sees Boro travel to Leeds on December 22, host Blackburn on Boxing Day and visit Derby on New Year’s Day, with a home date with Blackpool sandwiched in between.

Middlesbrough conclude as they began in South Yorkshire, away at Sheffield Wednesday on May 4.

League One

Life in the third tier begins away at Walsall for Doncaster Rovers on August 18.

They then welcome Bury to the Keepmoat on August 21 and Crawley Town four days later.

The big South Yorkshire derbies with Sheffield United are set for September 18 at Bramall Lane and New Year’s Day at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Doncaster travel to Oldham on Boxing Day and finish the season on April 27 at Brentford.

The harsh reality of life in League One begins at home to newly-promoted Shrewsbury for Danny Wilson’s Sheffield United.

The Blades then visit Coventry and Colchester on August 21 and 25.

A home game with Scunthorpe is the Boxing Day fixture, followed by that mouthwatering derby at Doncaster on January 1.

United finish the season at home to Preston on April 27.

League Two

Promoted York City kick-off a Football League season after eight years in the Conference when they host Wycombe Wanderers on August 18. They then travel to Morecambe three days later and Barnet four days after that.

Yorkshire derbies with Rotherham and Bradford are on back-to-back Saturdays in October - the 6th and 13th respectively.

Gary Mills’s Minstermen visit Chesterfield on Boxing Day and host Burton Albion on January 1.

A trip to Dagenham and Redbridge on April 27 completes their first season back in the Football League.

Burton Albion are the first visitors to Rotherham United’s New York Stadium on Saturday August 18.

The Millers then hit the road to face Northampton three days later and local rivals Chesterfield on August 25.

Rotherham welcome Port Vale on Boxing Day while Rochdale are the hosts on New Year’s Day.

York City visit the New York Stadium on February 26, three days after Rotherham visit Bradford, and the campaign ends for Steve Evans’s men at home to Aldershot on April 27.

Bradford City start their campaign on August 18 away at Gillingham before two home games in four days at Valley Parade against Fleetwood Town (21st) and AFC Wimbledon (25th).

The Bantams visit Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United on September 1 and host York City on October 13.

Accrington Stanley are the visitors on Boxing Day while Phil Parkinson’s men head to Morecambe on New Year’s Day.

Bradford finish their season at Cheltenham on April 27.
