Football gossip: Warnock ‘staying put at Leeds’; Clarke re-signs for Huddersfield; Beevers for Owls

NEIL Warnock’s immediate future as Leeds United manager appeared secure today after Nottingham Forest played down rumours of an attempt to lure him away.

Warnock was reported to have been among candidates shortlisted to replace Forest manager Steve Cotterill in the event of a likely change of ownership at the Midlands club.

But it now appears Forest’s prospective owners do not intend to pursue Warnock, who is under contract at Leeds until the end of next season.

The Leeds boss is due to return from a short holiday next week, prior to the start of pre-season training. Meanwhile, negotiations continue over Leeds United’s future ownership.

Huddersfield Town’s Tom Clarke has signed a new one-year contract. The Halifax-born defender made 16 appearances last season and featured in both play-off semi-final ties against MK Dons.

Manager Simon Grayson said: “His ability to play in a variety of positions, to a high standard, is invaluable. We were very impressed during the latter stages of last season”

Town’s derby with Hull City on March 30 will kick-off at 12.30pm on police advice, and the visit to Sheffield Wednesday has been moved back to Wednesday September 19 to avoid a clash with the Sheffield United v Doncaster Rovers derby.
