Green drilled a shot into the roof of the net on 69 minutes to ease United’s nerves and kill Ipswich off against the run of play.
Town toiled in the first half and fell behind to Jerome Thomas’ 19th-minute tap-in but they were starting to gather momentum when United struck again on the break.

DJ Campbell narrowly failed to turn home close-range header and Bradley Orr beat Paddy Kenny’s far post with a dinked finish across goal on 52 minutes but the visitors were stung by another soft concession.
Orr miscontrolled a poor clearance from Alan Tate and Leeds broke away, with Thomas setting up Green for a clinical 10-yard finish, and two brilliant saves from Paddy Kenny prevented any possibility of a comeback.
