Ipswich Town v Leeds United: Redfearn will plough into the Tractor Boys

NEIL REDFEARN believes Leeds United are entering a similar
development phase to the one that has helped propel today’s
opponents into the automatic promotion race.

The Elland Road club head to Ipswich Town at the end of a turbulent week that saw president Massimo Cellino given four weeks to stand down after falling foul of the Football League’s owners and directors’ test.

Cellino plans to appeal but the timing was unfortunate, with United having just put in their best performance of the season when beating leaders Derby County a week ago.

Another promotion challenger awaits today at Portman Road and Redfearn believes the Tractor Boys, who had to rebuild under Barnsley-born Mick McCarthy last season, are a useful example for the Yorkshire club to follow.

Leeds’s head coach said: “Mick has done a brilliant job down there. They are having a great season and Mick has been working hard to put a side together.

“They had a season where he got his feet under the table and now they are producing what he wants them to produce. It is a typical Mick McCarthy side and it will be a tough game for us.

“Ipswich are big and physical. They’re quite direct but they play with quality. They get it into the front quickly and get bodies around the ball.

“They have also got people who are capable of scoring goals. We have got to try and play our football.”

In terms of taking on another of the Championship’s leading clubs, Redfearn added: “It seems to have fallen that way around.

“We are playing all the top sides but we enjoy a challenge and are looking forward to the game.”
