It’ll be fine: Redfearn will succeed at Leeds, says Danny Wilson

Redfearn played under Wilson during the Lancastrian’s first spell in charge at Barnsley during arguably the most distinguished spell of his playing career when both helped the Reds to promotion to the Premier League for the only time in the club’s history in 1997.

After three spells as caretaker boss, Redfearn, 49, is now running United’s first-team affairs on a full-time basis for the first time and Wilson believes he thoroughly deserved his chance - and that he can improve the fortunes of Leeds.

Wilson, currently in his second spell as manager at Oakwell, said: “He had done it so far in bits and bobs in the caretaker role and has stepped into the breach many times and done very well.

“It is different when you have got it in front of you and I think he deserves his chance.

“He always wanted to be management material and he is at a very big club and I am sure he will do well there.

“Neil is his own man as well and his opinions and way of doing things and he will be fine.”
