Kilkenny set for Elland Road return

Former Leeds United midfielder Neil Kilkenny makes his first return to Elland Road tomorrow hoping for a good reception from Whites supporters.

The 25-year-old Australia international left United in the summer – after rejecting a new contract – to join Bristol City.

“I played there for three years so I’ve not got anything to prove,” he said.

“I think I should get a good response from the crowd but maybe not from the director’s box.”

Kilkenny joined Leeds in January 2008 for £150,000 from Birmingham City on a three-and-a-half year contract. He went on to make 144 appearances.

“Everyone knows they’ve got a lot of pressure on them from the fans and the chairman (Ken Bates). He thinks they should be in the play-offs all the time,” he added.

“There are only five players left from the starting line-up that played with me last year so they might not be playing as well.”

City manager Keith Millen believes Kilkenny’s prior knowledge of his former team could help them get a result.

“I’m sure he’s looking forward to it, he’s got the sort of personality that would thrive in the situation,” said Millen.

“Even though I’m sure their fans appreciate what he did for them, they’ll be giving him some stick.

“I had a chat with him, to tell him how I see it and ask if I was missing out and if there was anything he didn’t agree with, so I’ve picked his brains on it.”

Transfer-listed defender Jon Harley has returned to Notts County after a trial at Australian club Melbourne Victory. The former Sheffield United, 31, failed to agree a move Down Under.
