As Leeds face relegation battle, Redfearn wants out of hot seat

NEIL Redfearn admitted he was hoping for the appointment of a permanent manager at Leeds United “sooner rather than later” after the first game of his caretaker reign ended in defeat.

The club’s academy boss voiced concern about an uncertain situation at Elland Road as a fourth straight loss to Charlton Athletic on Saturday left Leeds facing up to a relegation fight.

Redfearn was placed in temporary charge last week after United parted company with Neil Warnock.

Leeds have compiled a shortlist of potential replacements – a shortlist which does not include Redfearn – but initially stated that the arrival of Warnock’s successor might wait until the summer.

Redfearn said: “It’s not an ideal situation.

“For me it was one game at a time and I said I’d help out. There’s no way I was going to duck away from that.

“But the bottom line for the club, perhaps, is that it would be better for them if it (the selection of a new manager) was sooner rather than later.”
