Rosler has already brought in four players this summer.

Chris Wood’s arrival in a deal that could rise to £3m this week has given pre-season a lift in the eyes of not only supporters but also, judging by the effort being put in on the training field, the players.

Palermo defender Sol Bamba, Motherwell striker Lee Erwin and young Cardiff City goalkeeper Charlie Horton are Rosler’s other new additions and the German admits to being pleased with his recruitment to date.

“We go step by step,” he said. “We are right on track and have already signed good players. We had good ones here, too.

“A few have surprised me in a positive way.

“But we would like to add one or two more in terms of needing pace in the team. We are not in a rush and will see what happens. Getting the main striker sorted was crucial.

“The work began as soon as I was employed. Every week was in Leeds apart from one. A lot of office work and a lot of meetings with the chairman (Massimo Cellino) to discuss how we can develop this team going forward, what sort of players we want.”

On his relationship with Cellino, Rosler added: “He is a very interesting man and we have had really good football discussions.

“It is very important we build a relationship together and that is what we are doing. I have been happy with the input I have had.

“Chris Wood was a choice of both of us. We are both very excited. He is the right player, the right type and is here at the right time on a four-year contract. We both feel very excited.

“Now, I am more here at Thorp Arch than at the stadium. But it is important we keep on having those conversations, as it will be very beneficial.”
