Leeds United: Rosler considers options after failed bid for Belgian winger

Reports in Holland say NEC have rejected an offer of close to £1.5m from Leeds and are holding out for an “astronomical amount” for the 21-year-old Belgian.

United are understood to have identified Limbombe as a potential target on the back of the key role played by him in NEC’s promotion to the Dutch top flight last season.

Limbombe scored 14 league goals and weighed in with numerous assists as NEC won Holland’s second division by a margin of 21 points.

NEC director Bart Van Ingen told the Dutch media earlier this week that the club had turned down a bid from an English club, indicating that the figure fell a long way short of Limbombe’s asking price.

“We have not accepted the offer and we do not intend to sell Limbombe, unless it is an astronomical amount,” he said.

Limbombe was originally picked out as a target by Leeds owner Massimo Cellino and the Italian has been tracking the former Racing Genk player for the past three months.

United paid £1.3m to sign Stuart Dallas from Brentford earlier this month but the Elland Road club are open to the possibility of adding another winger to their squad before the end of the transfer window.

Leeds have already looked at two foreign options but were priced out of a move for Bastia’s Floyd Ayite and withdrew from talks with Catania’s Raphael Martinho amid doubts about whether the Brazilian - a player who spoke little English - would settle in England.

A source at Elland Road told the YEP that Limbombe was a player who the club had “spent a lot of energy on” but NEC’s his valuation is threatening to end their interest in him.
