Leeds United v Blackburn Rovers: New striker Rhodes in squad for Elland Road clash

New Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s Championship trip to Leeds United and has already set his sights on firing Rovers back to the Barclays Premier League.

The 22-year-old Scotland international completed his move from Huddersfield Town in a club-record £8million deal yesterday. (August 30)

“It’s great to be here and be part of such a prestigious club,” he told Rovers Player. “It was great to be part of the staff at Huddersfield. They were so accommodating and friendly and great to be a part of, and they fully understand why I’ve made the move here.

“It’s a Premiership club - in everything but the status. I think the aim this year will be tying to get back there and get the status back. That’s the challenge. Coming here to a club like that and trying to get it is a massive goal.”

On the hefty transfer fee, he added: “That’s a little bit of added pressure but I’m very grateful to the manager and owners for coming out and saying how much they wanted me. In some ways you might look at it as being a big fee, but to myself it feels like a wanted feeling and that’s great to be a part of.”

Blackburn boss Steve Kean rested several players in Tuesday’s League Cup defeat to MK Dons and is expected to recall a number of senior men for the Elland Road clash.

Rovers head into the weekend third in the fledgling standings having picked up seven points from a possible nine so far.
