Leeds video exclusive: Don Revie statue installed at Elland Road... after they find a big enough drill

A STATUE of the legendary Leeds United manager Don Revie was lowered into place at the club’s Elland Road ground this morning.

The dawn operation was undertaken two days before the official unveiling of sculptor Graham Ibbeson’s work on Saturday.

The unveiling ceremony is due to be attended by Revie’s children, Duncan and Kim, plus members of Revie’s 1972 FA cup winning team.

Mr Ibbeson’s £90,000 statue was erected next to the Centenary Pavilion, opposite Elland Road’s East Stand.

His other work can be found in more than 30 towns and cities up and down the country, including Leeds which is home to his statue of Second World pilot Arthur Aaron, who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for saving the lives of his crew despite being fatally wounded.

The Yorkshire Post filmed the statue’s erection - halted briefly while workmen went to a hire shop for a bigger drill - and you can take a first peek by clicking the screen above.
