Portsmouth 0 Leeds United 0: Whites in Pompey stalemate

NEIL WARNOCK’S first game in charge of Leeds united ended goalless despite both sides getting the ball in the net during an entertaining second half, writes Richard Sutcliffe.

Robert Snodgrass was the first to have a ‘goal’ chalked out for offside, while near the end Greg Halford’s throw-in sailed straight into the net without anything touching the ball – meaning referee Phil Gibbs rightly awarded a goal-kick.

Leeds were left the most frustrated at the final whistle after a much improved effort in the second half that saw Ross McCormack thunder a shot against the crossbar and then Luciano Becchio be denied by a brave block from Stephen Henderson.

For Pompey, George Thorne came the closest to finding the net legitimately with a thunderous shot that Andy Lonergan brilliantly tipped round the post.
