Redfearn and Murphy are in contention for the Championship’s manager and player of the month awards respectively after inspiring a recovery at Elland Road after the turn of the year.

Leeds took eight points from four league games in January – a spate of results which included a 1-0 win over Championship league leaders Bournemouth.

Murphy, who made an unexpected return to United’s starting line-up last month after a long spell out of favour, scored the only goal against Bournemouth and also struck late on in a 1-1 draw at home to Birmingham City.

The midfielder provided the assist for Leeds’ first goal in Saturday’s derby at Huddersfield Town.

Alongside Murphy, Watford striker Odion Ighalo, Middlesbrough playmaker Lee Tomlin and Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Richard Stearman are also vying for the January player of the month award.

Redfearn is joined on the managerial shortlist by Middlesbrough’s Aitor Karanka, Derby County’s Steve McClaren and Brentford Mark Warburton, whose team visit Elland Road this weekend.

The winners of the awards will be announced tomorrow.
