Soccer gossip: Leeds, Terriers, Hull, Doncaster. Owls

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY are close to agreeing a loan move for Everton starlet Ross Barkeley - with Blues boss David Moyes ready to accept the Owls’ overtures.

Barkley, who burst onto the scene at the start of last season, was a substitute in the Toffees’ recent Capital One Cup win over Leyton Orient , but has played only 14 minutes in the Premier League since November.

With Everton having strengthened their squad during the summer, the 18-year-old midfielder is likely to find his first-team opportunities limited in the coming months.

And with Moyes keen for the youngster to see more playing time, a move to Hillsborough looks imminent.

Owls boss Dave Jones is also currently running the rule over trialist schemer Jason Koumas, without a club since leaving Wigan 16 months ago.

Meanwhile, Hull City boss Steve Bruce admits he is keen to add another forward with last season’s top-scorer Matty Fryatt yet to return to training following an Achilles tendon injury.

Fryatt suffered the problem in the Capital One Cup clash with Rotherham in August and remains sidelined for City’s forthcoming home double-header with Millwall and derby rivals Leeds United.

Bruce has an interest in Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell, although as it stands the Wearsiders won’t be letting the former Tigers loan forward out on loan.

The City boss also made an abortive move for Jay Bothroyd ahead of the transfer deadline, only to lose out to Sheffield Wednesday in the race to sign him.

Bruce said: “Obviously, with Matty still out injured we are looking.

“I have always said that as a team you are as good as the strikers available to you, and you collect them if you can.”

Rotherham United and boss Steve Evans are holding talks on the best way to handle the six-game stadium ban imposed on the Millers chief.

Evans will be unable to attend the club’s next six matches, starting with Saturday’s home clash with Torquay United and while Millers routinely film home games with each manager receiving a DVD of the game, they may now even look into the possibility of using their own cameras at away games.

Millers assistant Paul Raynor will take charge of the Millers on match-days in Evans’ absence.
