However, owner Massimo Cellino has openly admitted the club is up for sale, despite reneging on an agreement to sell the club to Leeds Fans United on Wednesday last week.

When asked about the whether it was having any impact, Steve Evans said: “No, none. I made it very clear to the president from the first time I met him that I didn’t want to be involved in any of the off the field issues, just to concentrate on the pitch at Thorp Arch, the team, the players, that can be my remit.

“I’ve met with the president most days that I’ve been there. He gets on with the business side, other than the grass of the football club, and I get on with the team.”

Evans was also asked about who has final say over footballing decisions, and said: “I’ve got complete say on the team.

“Mr Cellino, the minute that changes, Steve Evans won’t be the manager of Leeds United.

“I’ve been given the assurance it will be. It’s been completely 100 per cent like that. I’ve enjoyed working with him, he’s challenging. He wants his team to win.

“The first day I met him, the reason for bringing me in was that he really feared the club could get involved in a relegation battle. Whether that was going to happen or not, time will never know.”
