Still friends with Leeds: Axed Hall goes back on Twitter

United announced on Sunday that the 25-year-old’s Elland Road contract had been terminated by mutual consent – bringing an end to his chequered 13-month career at the club.

Hall’s exit came hot on the heels of the former Southend United and Crystal Palace player being suspended over an alleged breach of the club’s social media policy.

Hall was barred on full pay after a number of controversial posts on his Twitter account expressing his anger at being out of the first-team picture.

Hall became the club’s first permanent signing since being taken over by GFH Capital in December 2012 when he arrived for a six-figure fee, believed to be in the region of £150,000 following a loan spell.

He still has 18 months left on his deal, with negotiations believed to be ongoing regarding the player’s pay-off.

Sources close to the player say Hall wants to concentrate on reigniting his football career again after a difficult time on the pitch at Leeds, while acknowledging that things change under new management with Hall brought in by United’s previous boss Neil Warnock.

The Londoner spent a loan spell at Sheffield United earlier this autumn.

Despite everything, Hall insists he made some friends during his ill-fated time at Leeds and now just wants to start a new footballing adventure elsewhere, with his career having hit the slow lane at Leeds. On his departure, Hall tweeted: “Just wanna wish Leeds all the best in the future I enjoyed my time there and met so many nice people.”

Meanwhile Scunthorpe chairman Peter Swann has dismissed rumours David O’Leary is in the running for the vacant manager’s job at Glanford Park.

The Iron sacked Brian Laws last week following a five-game winless run, but responded under caretaker-bosses Russ Wilcox and Tony Daws with victory at Portsmouth on Saturday. Swann and the board hope to draw up a short-list of candidates to succeed Laws this week. Nottingham Forest captain Chris Cohen has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with the cruciate knee ligament injury he sustained against Burnley.
