11.25pm: Huddersfield make second signing of the day from Falkirk, bringing in 22-year-old striker Kallum Higginbotham shortly before the deadline expired.

7.31pm: Donal McDermott has completed his transfer from Huddersfield Town to Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old had only arrived at the Galpharm Stadium last summer having left Manchester City.

7.10pm: Quiet day at Rotherham, but that’s been their doing, as they rejected two bids from unnamed clubs for striker Lewis Grabban.

7.00pm: Something at last... Norwegian youngster Erik Tonne has joined Conference Premier promotion hopefuls York City on loan until the end of the season

6.45pm: It’s fallen a bit quiet on the transfer front, locally and nationally. Suppose it could be a quiet denoument with a number of fixtures to be played this evening.

6.00pm: Finally an update on Robert Snodgrass, Leeds fans. Appears Blackburn Rovers have failed in a bid for the Leeds winger.

5.50pm: Marc Wilson, who left Doncaster Rovers today by mutual consent, has joined League Two Oxford United on a free transfer.

5.41pm: Barnsley have completed the signing of Leyton Orient midfielder Stephen Dawson on a two-and-a-half year deal. Club’s not disclosing the fee but according to earlier mutterings it’s a six-figure package.

5.33pm: Former Sheffield Wednesday loanee James Tavernier has joined MK Dons on loan now from parent club Newcastle United.

5.30pm: Chelsea’s Rhys Taylor has extended his loan deal at Rotherham United.

5.04pm: We enter the final six hours of the January transfer window. The main headlines from the day are:

* Barnsley’s Ricardo Vaz Te has signed for West Ham United

* Leeds United have brought in Tottenham Hotspur youngster Adam Smith on loan

* Sheffield United have signed Will Hoskins on loan from Brighton until the end of the season

4.52pm: Rangers have had their approach for forward Grant Holt rebuffed by Norwich City.

Simon Grayson, meanwhile, said that he had been tracking Adam Smith - the 20-year-old full-back who has been signed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur - for a few months while he was on loan at MK Dons and had taken references from Stuart Pearce and Harry Redknapp.

4.20pm: In national news, West Brom have signed Liam Ridgewell from their Midlands neighbours Birmingham.

4.15pm: Luke O’Brien’s move from Bradford City to Exeter City has been confirmed.

3.45pm: Doncaster Rovers have signed Frenchman Fabien Robert on loan from FC Lorient. He can play as either an attacking midfielder or a striker.

Plenty of rumours that Everton want Manchester City’s Adam Johnson on loan - would be a surprise if he’s released.

3.36pm: Massive breaking news from Leeds is that at least two clubs are interested in Robert Snodgrass. Brace yourself.

Meanwhile, Will Hoskins has completed his move to Sheffield United, according to Brighton’s official website.

3.33pm: Commenting on the departure of Ricardo Vaz Te to West Ham, Barnsley General Manager Don Rowing said: “We had no option in the end but to sell. Ricardo had expressed a desire to leave once he knew West Ham were interested.

“Although we made him a substantial offer to stay he wanted to play for a club that he thinks will be playing Premiership football next season.

3.26pm: Huddersfield Town have beaten off competition from Ipswich to sign 19-year-old Falkirk defender Murray Wallace. He will remain at the Scottish club on loan for the rest of this season.

Stuttgart striker Pavel Pogrebnyak has undergone a medical at Fulham and will join on loan subject to a work permit being granted

3.12pm: Reports that Blackpool’s Billy Clarke, who has spent some time on loan at Sheffield United this season, has been signed by Crawley Town.

3.06pm: Ian Appleyard tweets that Sheffield United are set to sign former Rotherham striker Will Hoskins from Brighton and Hove Albion on loan until the end of the season

32-year-old Doncaster Rovers midfielder Mark Wilson has had his contract terminated by mutual consent after falling out of favour at the club.

He spent a month on loan at Walsall in October and November, making six appearances, but hasn’t played for Rovers since September.

3.01pm: There are eight hours remaining in the January transfer window and news from Germany that Spurs player Vedran Corluka will spend the rest of the season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.

Keith Andrews is expected to leave Blackburn today, with four clubs interested.

2.58pm: Rotherham United manager Andy Scott has decided captain Ryan Cresswell will not be going out on loan.

2.55pm: The above video shows a few disgruntled fans outside Elland Road at the amount of players going out as opposed to coming in this month.

Some still want two or three players today, others would prefer it if the club just hang on to people like Robert Snodgrass. Click the play button to hear their thoughts.

2.35pm: As widely expected, Djibril Cisse completed his move from Lazio this morning and trained with his new QPR team-mates.

Bobby Zamora remains a Fulham player for now, but negotiations are ongoing with QPR, who have tabled a £5m bid.

2.27pm: Watford have reportedly accepted a bid from Wigan Athletic for Adrian Mariappa.

Some unconfirmed reports that Louis Saha is heading to Tottenham Hotspur and will be replaced by Nikica Jelavic, who has just arrived at Goodison Park to put pen to paper on a move from Rangers.

2.22pm: Ben Marshall’s move to Leicester City has been completed, dashing any lingering hope Sheffield Wednesday had of making his loan deal permanent.

2.14pm: Teenage Leeds United goalkeeper Alex Cairns has joined Conference side Barrow on a month’s loan. Alex made his first team debut against Blackpool in November.

2.05pm: Under nine hours to go now until the transfer window closes for January and Newcastle are believed to have made a final offer to test the resolve of Watford over Adrian Mariappa.

Fulham are looking at West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie should Bobby Zamora move across London to QPR, while Swansea City are about to close a deal for highly-rated Wrexham defender Curtis Obeng.

Sunderland have acquired Wayne Bridge on loan for the rest of the season, and Martin O’Neill could also bring in former Liverpool defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos, who is currently at Wolfsburg.

Reports from Italy that David Pizarro is heading to Manchester City for a medical.

1.58pm: More interest by Huddersfield - this time in Falkirk’s Kallum Higginbotham. But they’ll face some stiff competition to land the 22-year-old striker, with both Old Firm clubs, Ipswich and Crystal Palace all sniffing around.

1.50pm: Watch our video of Leeds United fans at Elland Road voicing their thoughts on the club’s January transfer policy.

1.40pm: Rangers are reported to be interested in taking Norwich City’s former Sheffield Wednesday striker Grant Holt up to Ibrox.

1.25pm: There’s a rumour, only a tentative one, that Huddersfield have lodged a £750,000 bid for Crystal Palace’s Sean Scannell, but I’ve not seen it confirmed anywhere yet. Will keep digging.

1.10pm: Early whispers of a possible deal between Sheffield United and Brighton for former Rotherham striker Will Hoskins. Blades in the market for a goalscorer. Makes sense. Reliable at League One level.

1.00pm: Looking like Huddersfield Town’s Donal McDermott is off to Bournemouth. The former Manchester City youngster spent the second half of last season on loan with the Cherries.

12.46pm: Middlesbrough are reported to have rejected a bid for Australian defender Rhys Williams from Premier League side Bolton Wanderers.

12.37pm: According to Leyton Orient’s website, Barnsley have lodged a six-figure package for O’s midfielder Stephen Dawson that the club have agreed.

Dawson is 26 and Barnsley had a bid for him rejected earlier this month.

12.31pm: Leeds United have confirmed the capture of Tottenham’s Adam Smith on a loan deal until the end of the season. The England Under 20s right-back has yet to figure for Spurs but has racked up 63 games in loan spells for Wycombe, Torquay, Bournemouth and MK Dons.

Simon Grayson said: “Adam is a player we have been monitoring for a long time. He has a bright future and is a great addition for us.”

12.20pm: Faint hope for Wednesday fans, Ben Marshall’s move to Leicester from Stoke is not yet confirmed. Should be soon, but not just yet. Always hope...

12.15pm: Barnsley’s Ricardo Vaz te undergoing medical at West Ham. Would be a big blow to Keith Hill to lose a player he resurrected.

12.11pm: Doncaster Rovers have made their first move of deadline day, confirming the signing of France Under 20s international Fabien Robert on a deal until the end of the season from Lorient. The deal is subject to international clearance and a medical but that’s not stopped them putting him in a Rovers shirt and photographing him.

11.53am: 19-year-old Falkirk defender Murray Wallace is deciding whether to join Huddersfield, Brighton or Ipswich.

Barnsley’s Miles Addison has returned to Derby County for the rest of the season following a loan spell at Oakwell.

11.44am: Leeds United, Derby County and Birmingham City are monitoring developments at Stoke regarding Danny Higginbotham, according to reports.

11.39am: Stephen Dawson, the Leyton Orient central midfielder, on the verge of joining Barnsley, according to reports.

First Jordan Rhodes rumours of the day surfacing - linked with Aston Villa if Darren Bent goes to Liverpool. Have also heard link to Spurs, who have been one of a number of Premier League teams scouting him.

11.29am: Ben Marshall, the winger who spent the first part of the season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, has joined Leicester City from Stoke City.

11.25am: Hull City’s head of football operations, Adam Pearson, has said there will be no transfer activity at the KC Stadium today

11.14am: Confirmed signing at Blackburn Rovers, who have brought in Marcus Olsson, brother of Martin, on a free transfer from Swedish side Halmstads

11.09am: Going to be plenty of striking options at Upton Park - Vaz Te and Morrison coming in, plus Frank Nouble turning down a move to Crawley Town.

On the subject of strikers, QPR are in negotiations with Fulham about Bobby Zamora.

Swansea City are interested in Peterborough United defender Ryan Bennett, while another Championship club, Watford, have turned down a bid from Wigan Athletic for defender Adrian Mariappa.

10.58am: Chelsea confirm Kevin De Bruyne will also spend next season on loan at Genk. One for the future obviously.

10.43am: Shock at Leeds United deadline day signing! A loan move for Tottenham Hotspur youngster Adam Smith in the offing.

Defender Smith, 20, has yet to make a first team appearance for Spurs, but has been on loan to MK Dons, Wycombe, Torquay and Bournemouth.

10.34am: Middlesbrough interested in Coventry City captain Sammy Clingan. Leeds were after the Northern Irish international earlier in the transfer window.

10.26am: Busy morning at West Ham, who have also opened talks with Bristol City’s Nicky Maynard.

10.14am: More Premier League news and Birmingham City defender Liam Ridgewell is poised to join West Bromwich Albion after the two Midlands clubs agreed a fee.

Wolves striker Andy Keogh looks set to join Millwall on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Wayne Bridge is having a medical at Sunderland ahead of a possible loan move, while Djibril Cisse is expected at QPR this morning.

10.07am: One of the highest profile moves today could be Nikica Jelavic from Rangers to Everton. The Croatian striker has arrived on Merseyside for a medical. Meanwhile, Louis Saha could be on his way out of Goddison Park, possibly to Spurs.

Flawed wonderkid Ravel Morrison looks set to join West Ham from Manchester United for an initial £650,000 fee, rising to £1m. Across Manchester, City are in talks with David Pizarro, the Roma player.

9.57am: News from Valley Parade is that Luke O’Brien’s move to Exeter City is expected to go through this morning. The full-back will replace Scott Golbourne, who left last week for Barnsley.

Bantams manager Phil Parkinson criticised Exeter yesterday for their handling of the transfer.

9.50am: Barnsley have given striker Ricardo Vaz Te permission to speak to West Ham United. The Portuguese has scored 12 goals in 24 appearances for Barnsley this season but looks set to be re-united with Sam Allardyce, his former manager at Bolton Wanderers.

But Barnsley have agreed a deal for Leyton Orient captain Stephen Dawson, it has emerged.

9.41am: Although the deadline is 11pm tonight, it’s likely most business will be concluded before this evening, when there are five Premier League fixtures and a full programme in the Championship.

In our region, Leeds United host Birmingham City at Elland Road (kick-off 7.45pm), Barnsley host Derby County at Oakwell (7.45pm) and Hull City face Doncaster Rovers (7.45pm).

And in League One, Sheffield Wednesday travel to fellow promotion contenders MK Dons (7.45pm)

9.36am: It looks set to be a busy day at Queens Park Rangers, with manager Mark Hughes saying yesterday he could bring in as many as four new signings. First piece of business involves defender Bradley Orr, who is wanted by Blackburn Rovers

9.29am: Celtic defender Mark Wilson looks set to join Bristol City after a move to Leeds United fell through.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have completed the signing of Kevin De Bruyne from Belgian side Genk. The winger is excpected to sign a five-and-a-half year contract but will return to Genk on loan for the rest of this season.

9.20am: Sheffield Wednesday have secured the services of 20-year-old John Bostock until the end of the season, while Leeds United manager Simon Grayson revealed the club didn’t move for Alan Smith because of his lack of match practice. Smith has joined Milton Keynes Dons and could start against Wednesday tonight.
