Warnock unlikely to enlist Mills this week

LEEDS UNITED transfer target Matt Mills remains a member of Leicester City’s squad, their manager Nigel Pearson confirmed last night.

The 25-year-old is wanted by United after falling out of favour at the East Midlands club but it appears a possible move has stalled.

Mills, who played for Leicester reserves against Northampton Town in midweek, had to wait until Pearson returned to work yesterday after a back operation to discover whether he would be allowed to leave.

Asked about Mills’s future, former Hull City chief Pearson said: “It remains a case he is one of our paid employees and that is the way it is.

“We will utilise him like any other player in the squad, when and if we feel appropriate.

“There was interest and I am not making any further statements on that situation other than he is where he is at the moment.

“There is nothing more to say. There has been speculation and interest but nothing has happened.”

Mills is one of a number of targets Leeds are chasing but Leeds manager Neil Warnock admits the chances of making another addition before tomorrow’s game against Southampton to add to Danny Webber earlier this week are receding.

He said: “He (Mills) is one of the names mentioned but we have talked to two or three clubs about a number of players. It doesn’t look like anybody will be coming in before the weekend.”
