Leeds transfer news: Fresh twist in midfielder pursuit, Big development could lead to double deal

When it comes to Leeds United and transfer rumours, the vast majority of gossip this month has been generated by the Italian press.

In particular, there have been constant links between the Whites and Fiorentina midfielder Erick Pulgar, but it would appear that the speculation could be about to die down. According to Tutto Mercato Web, Leeds have cooled off their interest in the Chilean over the past few hours, and a move is looking increasing unlikely – especially before the transfer window shuts in the coming days.

For many followers of the club, the update won't come as too much of a surprise.

In a Q&A session earlier in the week, the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth made it clear that it would be no shock at all to see deadline day come and go without the Whites bringing in any new players.

That being said, we should all know better than to second guess Marcelo Bielsa by now, and if a golden opportunity were to arise, there's no saying that the pragmatic Argentine wouldn’t look to pounce on it.

According to Football Insider, such an opportunity could come in the shape of Derby County duo Louie Sibley and Jason Knight.

A report from the online publication suggests that the Rams have drafted in agents in an effort to facilitate the sales of a number of key talents as they look to balance the books at Pride Park.

Both teenagers have been linked with potential moves to Elland Road in recent weeks, although the initial assumption was that summer moves were more likely.

With this latest update, however, the door may well have been opened to a cut-price raid.

It’s easy to see why Leeds are so keen on the duo too.

Sibley made a huge impression with a match-winning hat-trick against Millwall last season, while Derby boss Wayne Rooney has showered praise on midfielder Knight.

He told Rams TV: “His energy, his attitude – he almost reminds me of myself when I was younger in terms of no fear.

Newcastle United are closing in on a "landmark hire" that will have huge repercussions for Steve Bruce’s position. Although relatively vague, a report on the matter suggests that the Magpies are negotiating the arrival of a figure who the club believe immediately improve the first team on Tyneside. "He’s got an aggression about him. I’m looking forward to see how they do as I feel he can give us a lot of energy and a lot of creativity”.
