Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa provides an update on Kalvin Phillips

The Argentine revealed that he had expected Phillips, who came off with a calf issue in Saturday's 1-0 win over Reading, to be available for the Boro trip on Tuesday morning. But a re-evaluation of his injury the following day ruled out the Leeds-born player.

Meanwhile, Bielsa confirmed that Jean-Kevin Augustin, who missed the game at the Riverside Stadium with a hamstring problem, will definitely be sidelined for the weekend trip to East Yorkshire.

Bielsa, speaking after the win at Boro, said: "He (Phillips) had an evaluation in the morning and he wasn't 100 per cent to play. Yesterday (Tuesday) we thought he was going to play and today, it wasn't possible.

"Not Augustin (for Saturday) and Kalvin, I don't know. Probably but I don't want to make the same mistake as yesterday when I thought he was going to play.

"Augustin has a muscular problem in his hamstring."

Meanwhile, Bielsa praised his Whites side for keeping calm en route to their third successive 1-0 victory - with Mateusz Klich's goal in first-half stoppage time securing three points at relegation-threatened Boro.

Despite spurning a number of chances to make the margin of victory a lot more convincing, Leeds emerged as comfortable-enough winners, even accounting for a couple of scares.

Bielsa said: "The team fought a lot, were very aggressive and they made a lot of effort, when it was necessary the whole team defended. We attacked well; we were better in the first half than in the second half, with more chances in the first half.

"The team protected the result a lot, we played well in different moments of the match. The team didn't lose calm.

"They made few faults. In general, we managed well all the different situations in the match. Maybe in some moments in the second half, Middlesbrough created some danger for us but in general we had three times more chances than them.

"The match was very tough, a lot of fight in the match, I think Middlesbrough were above their level regarding the previous matches they've played."
