Leeds United make fast start, Doncaster Rovers give chase, but Sheffield United are left propping up the Power Rankings

WHICH Yorkshire sides have flexed their muscles at the start of the 2020-21 season and carried on from where they left off in high summer?

The Yorkshire Post’s Power Rankings list is back and reveals all as we look at who has been hot - as opposed to not.

Pride of place goes to Leeds United.

Back in the Premier League and the view is pretty swell.

Back-to-back wins over Sheffield United and Fulham have added to a discernible feel-good factor at Elland Road.

All told, Leeds have won 14 times in their last 18 competitive games. Outstanding. United are back.

Going along very nicely indeed under Darren Moore, one of the most accomplished managers around in the lower divisions.

Rovers have yet to see their colours lowered in the league in 20-21 and have won four of their past five matches in League One. They are also unbeaten in seven games at the Keepmoat. Good going.

3: Hull City LWDWLW

What a difference a new season makes.

Mauled at the end of last term in a horrendous run of form, the Tigers have won three out of three in the league so far. They may have suffered a couple of cup losses - but that is not the headline news.

Their start to the new League One season most definitely is. Two wins, six goals scored, none conceded.

4: Harrogate Town DDWLDD

Simon Weaver should be content enough.

The league newboys are proving reassuringly hard to beat in their maiden odyssey in the Football League and they are yet to sample defeat at league level.

All told, Town have been beaten just once in their past 15 matches in all senior competitions. Spirited, strong, together.

5: Bradford City WDDLDW

Aside from a heavy Carabao Cup loss to Lincoln which everyone would prefer to gloss over, it has been a sound enough start to the campaign for the Bantams, who have been beaten just once in six games.

Lee Novak’s two-goal haul last weekend was a particularly welcome sight.

6: Rotherham United DLDWLD

A haul of four points from their opening three league matches represents a decent enough start for the Millers, although it could easily have been seven points.

Paul Warne should be happy enough, that said. Performances have been good.

United, who have not won in their past three home matches, now have a chance to do something about that with successive games against Huddersfield and Norwich.

7: Huddersfield Town WLLLLW

After four consecutive defeats, Carlos Corberan now finally has lift-off by way of a much-needed victory over Nottingham Forest. Hallelujah.

Town head to Rotherham on Saturday, having won just once on their travels since the end of January.

8: Sheffield Wednesday DWWDLL

Defeats to Fulham and Bristol City have tarnished an uplifting start to the season for the Owls, who face QPR at home on Saturday.

Home form needs to improve fast - more especially given the numbers at the wrong end of the Championship. Wednesday have not won in eight matches in all competitions at Hillsborough since late February.

9: Middlesbrough WWLLDD

Another side with serious homesickness issues.

Boro, yet to win in the league in 2020-21, have failed to pick up three points in their last 11 Championship matches at the Riverside since Boxing Day. No home league wins in this decade. Embarrassing is the word.

Next up are Barnsley, who recently triumphed on Teesside in the Carabao Cup.

10: Barnsley WLWLLD

Yet to win in the league so far in 2020-21 and yet to score either. The warmth of that high summer’s evening at Brentford is in danger of developing into a chill.

September has been a difficult month on and off the pitch for the Reds, who will be seeking better fortune in October at Boro and a repeat of their recent showing there in the Cup.

11; Sheffield United DWWDLL

The Blades looked down with disdain on most clubs in last season’s Power Rankings - how times are-a-changing.

United have lost six in a row at league level. Although better not mention ‘second season syndrome’ to Chris Wilder.

Next up?. Only a trip to Arsenal.
