Leeds United transfer news: Contradictory reports on future of Elland Road player, Whites could offer £4.3m contract to international

Pascal Struijk has established himself as a first team regular for Leeds United this season.

With Marcelo Bielsa’s men beset by injuries at the heart of defence, the Argentine has had to turn to the 21-year-old on a number of occasions, and the versatile youngster has already picked up 15 appearances in the Premier League this term.

His efforts in the top flight aren’t going unnoticed either, and today has seen contradictory reports over his future at Elland Road.

According to continental title De Telegraaf, Leicester City have inquired about the player, as have Italian giants Napoli.

But any concerned Leeds fans can take comfort a subsequent report from Belgian publication HLN.

They frame the situation a little differently, and suggest that Struijk’s agent offered him to the Foxes ahead of a potential summer move, but claim that the former Premier League champions have no intention of bringing in an extra centre-back at the end of the season.

One thing they do agree on, however, is that Napoli are still lurking.

It's easy to see why Struijk would be in demand though.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan summed up the youngster’s recent progression nicely when he told BBC Radio Leeds: “He is getting better and better.

"He is solid, by the way. Very aggressive in the air, very aggressive up against the centre-forward, good feet, covers ground well.

"He is getting better, by the way.”

Elsewhere, Leeds are being linked with a move for Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez.

The 29-year-old is still yet to agree terms on a new deal in the Spanish capital, and a summer move is looking more and more likely as the season goes on.

According to Cuatro, that’s where the Whites come in.

A recent report on the matter suggests that Leeds would be willing to offer the player up to £4.3 million in wages each year to lure him to Elland Road.

If Leeds are to land the wide man, however, they will have to beat off competition from the likes of Everton, Napoli and AC Milan.

Only time will tell on this one, but the opportunity to sign a nine-cap international on a free transfer is always going to be difficult to pass up…
