Leeds United transfer news: Fee agreed, Whites urged to wrap up bargain deal as Elland Road exit deemed 'impossible'

Marseille will find it “almost impossible” to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to journalist Nicholas Filhol, speaking to French publication Football Club de Marseille.

The young stopper has established himself as the undisputed number one at Elland Road this season, and it’s understood that his performances have been drawing admiring glances from Marcelo Bielsa's old club.

Marseille are said to be looking for a successor to take over from veteran keeper Steve Mandanda, but Filhol believes that they could be barking up the wrong tree with Meslier.

He said: “You have to forget Meslier.

"The guy is really having a good season in the Premier League.

"Leeds paid a little for him so there it is.

"If you want to take him from Leeds, it will be a big English club and it will not be Marseille”.

Meslier has kept nine clean sheets in 28 Premier League outings this season.

Elsewhere, Noel Whelan has urged the Whites to wrap up a permanent deal for Jack Harrison before they think about making a move for Real Madrid forward Lucas Vazquez.

The Spanish international looks set to be at the centre of an almighty transfer tussle this summer, with his contract set to expire in the coming months, and Leeds have been one of the sides linked with a potential swoop.

But Whelan is of the opinion that tying Harrison down for a cut-price fee must be first priority.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “He’s still looking like an absolute bargain. He’s only 24. Perfect timing.

“He’s someone who will progress and could have a future England role. He’s gone through a little dip but on the whole, he has been much more consistent. He always produces something.

“At £10 million, you’re kidding me. Who else are we going to get for that price that’s anywhere near Jack Harrison.”

Football Insider have previously reported that Leeds have already agreed a permanent deal with Harrison’s parent club Manchester City, believed to be in the region of £10 million.
