Eurosport were the most recent major outlet to categorically state that the Whites were keen on the hulking Spanish winger, and even went as far as to suggest that a summer pursuit was imminent.
Now, however, Football Insider are refuting those claims, and claim that Marcelo Bielsa and his transfer team will not look to test Wolves’ resolve in the coming months.
The online publication argue that the Argentine “does not believe Traore has the technical quality and ability to combine the play that he seeks in his wide attacker”.
And the stats would suggest that there is some substance to those suspicions.
At first glance Traore is a major attacking asset. His power is self-evident, and his ability to get at his full-back is admirable.
In fact, as per Whoscored, nobody in the Premier League has registered more successful dribbles per this term.
But for all of his prowess in that regard, Traore has just one assist in 26 top flight appearances this season – and is still yet to score a goal.
Perhaps then, Bielsa is right to have his reservations.
Elsewhere, Football Insider also suggest that West Ham are keeping tabs on Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
The Frenchman has been a standout talent for much of the campaign, and it is understood that the Hammers could look to make a move to bring him in as a long-term replacement for 35-year-old Lukasz Fabianski.
With eight clean sheets already this season, some Leeds fans would probably argue that he could take over from the Pole straight away – although the last thing they’ll want is to encourage the Irons to plot a raid in the summer.
Earlier in the season BT Sport pundit Robbie Savage described his run of form as "one of the best I have seen for a long time from a young goalkeeper", while former England number one David James was equally impressed by the young stopper and his aggressive style of goalkeeping.
