Leeds United transfer news: Phillips talks up potential Bielsa exit, Whites want player with 209 Premier League apps

Leeds United fans will be desperate for Marcelo Bielsa to stay at the club beyond the end of his current contract.

The Argentine prefers to operate on a one-year rolling deal, and theoretically could walk away from Elland Road at the end of the season if he doesn’t reach an agreement over an extension.

Recent updates from the man himself, while stopping short of confirming a new deal, have seemingly suggested that Bielsa is happy with his lot in Yorkshire, but former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips has argued that he could be temped into reassessing his situation if a big offer came in for him over the summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “It’s easy to come out and say those things. What if Real Madrid come knocking in the summer, do you think he’d stay?

“I’m not going to criticise. It’s brilliant to hear that, he’s done wonders there and he’s been a fantastic servant so far.

“They’re exciting and a lot of that is down to the manager. His training routines, the way he’s moulded the club.

“The way the players work their socks off. There’s a philosophy you have to buy into if you want to join Leeds.

“I don’t see him moving anywhere soon but football is football. He’s built a reputation and anything can happen.

“He’ll want to see that team play in the Premier League with a crowd and that might even persuade him to stay a little bit longer because that lot can be noisy.”

Elsewhere, reports over the weekend suggest that the Whites are eyeing up a potential move for Crystal Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt.

The Dutchman is out of contract at Selhurst Park at the end of the season, and Leeds could look to capitalise on his uncertain situation in an effort to lure him to Elland Road.

The 30-year-old has plenty of top flight experience, with 209 Premier League outings to his name.

Eighteen of those have come this season, with van Aanholt featuring for the Eagles at left-back and occasionally on the left-side of midfield.
